Unfortunately, for Russia the statement is no longer true. Under Putin, it's: Putin never dies; everybody else is cannon fodder.

His generals blindly and fearfully follow his orders even if it mean losing thousands of young Russians in futile and disastrous assaults against virtually impregnable positions. The generals order these attacks primarily because Putin orders them and they do not wish to be called to the rear where there are buildings with open windows.
