Ways to use coffee grounds for critter control? [View all]

I've read somewhere that used coffee grounds can be used as a deterrent for bugs when sprinkled around gardens, doorways, etc. Does anyone have any experience with the best tips and tricks for doing this? It seems like coffee grounds in dirt would get washed away, and coffee grounds on doorsteps and windowsills would be unsightly and also really prone to blowing away. So I'm just curious how this works, and what critters it works best for?

P.S. And any chance there's some benefit to using coffee grounds in mole holes? My yard has a problem with them, too.
