As a fallen-away Catholic, I've seen many crucifixes, some quite graphic. (There's no one like a Catholic for fetishizing suffering, you know.) He was Spanish, so probably saw a lot of the bloodier crucifix paintings. This isn't bloody, and doesn't look like suffering-- it's almost like he's levitating in some exalted ascension to heaven maybe?

Dali was a really great draftsman, wasn't he?

LOL about him being so arrogant. The mustache tells us that too!
