1. I purchased a "prepared backpack" from the Herrington online/catalog retailer (no longer in business, unfortunately)

and supplemented it. First and foremost, with a small lightweight weather band/FM/AM hand crank/battery/plug-in radio that likewise could charge just about anything with the adaptors. Then a water filtration bottle (and some water purification tablets). A Swiss Army knife with survival tools. Supplemented the included first aid kit with bandaging materials, disinfectants, and OTC pain and anti-diarrheal/vomiting meds in a small packet. I have a really good flashlight (rechargeable with an extra battery). I have a waterproof document bag with a copy of my most important documents (driver's license, birth certificate, contact list). Collapsible silicone dog bowl.. Matches... Small pepper spray device...small flare... Extra simple thin loop leashes that can be used for multiple purposes beyond my dog.

This is my starting point that include some freeze-dried food. (Apparently Walmart sells them online but probably Amazon too):



When I prepared this, I was thinking more of tornadoes (blizzards would be covered by my auto emergency set-up). Now I have to worry more about wildfires so I need to make some adjustments but the basics still apply for a worst-case scenario.
