I finally got to Downton Abbey - The Grand Finale. No Spoilers. [View all]
I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I think it was pretty much everything it needed to be for those of us who have been serious fans. Gorgeous costumes and sumptuous settings, of course. Multiple story lines. Funny moments, with some good zingers. Mysterious moments and surprises. Sad moments. Character growth. One of my favorite very minor characters, Lady Manville (who felt like "one of those bright young things they write about in the newspapers" at the indoor picnic) had an expanded role in this movie, and it was fun to see more of her.
We were out of town when the movie opened, at a family gathering that my husband's daughter had organized to celebrate his 80th birthday, so I couldn't see this much anticipated movie right away. After we got back, I tried to set things up with 3 different friends, all of whom have been busy with assorted thing, so, today, I finally decided to go by myself. I will happily go again with any of the 3 friends once they are free.
I know I'll buy it once its released on-line. I've watched all 6 TV seasons more times than I can count, and the first 2 movies as well. I call Downton Abbey my mental comfort food.
