...the same note, an octave apart. In this case, Kenny is singing 8 notes above the other guy.
The fellow with the acoustic is singing the verses alone, then the octave singing comes in on the chorus.
Adds a "size" to the chorus that the verses don't have.
As to the guitar, I hear it everywhere, but it's more obvious when he's playing up the neck like he is near the end.
