Seems there was a bar in NY where the jukebox was out of order.

So one of the bartenders brings in his stereo and some records to play at the bar.

This J Geils record was one of the ones he played, and the owner of the bar noticed that when "Give It to Me" played and it got to the breakdown section, everybody would get up to dance. He had the bartender play the song over and over and people seemed to never get tired of it.

Other bars followed suit, and the record company put out a ten-inch single of "Give It to Me" that sold very well. Instead of jukeboxes and live bands, bars changed over to a guy playing records. The dance records got the most approval amongst the bar patrons, and record companies and performers started putting out overlong dance singles to cater to the bars.

Of course, soon the bars became known as discos and dance records took over the music industry.
