Sorry I have no answer but your logic of process of elimination seems sound, if you heard all 98 other tunes, and none of them were those 2 ... they are 1 & 2 because there's no way they don't make the list.
To me if Yesterday and Hey Jude are 1 & 2 then I really hope it's like from a poll of listeners as opposed to Beatles scholars
