5. I love the Stones version, but I've been listening to this one for years too. I think the Samantha Fox part is a re-edit

Years ago, during a prior life in Miami during the same era, Miami was ground zero for all the products coming up from South America. We were well plugged-in, and along for the ride. I got picked up on bench warrants for unpaid tickets or something. The South Florida cops were quite active against my demographic, and routine harassment became a regular part of life.

This was during the days when cigarettes and matches were still allowed in jail. As I was in an upper bunk in the tank, I was reading the messages left by flaming-match letters and scratching into the wall paint. One of the messages was "The Hawkwind Tribe lives on." I could just visualize some poor uber-hippie dragged in for some bullshit and holding on to his Hawkwind Brotherhood to see him through.

Later on, there was a stir of activity in the tank. One of our fellow prisoners was a member of KC and the Sunshine Band, and they were in a hurry to bail him out because they needed him for a show they were playing.

I believe Hawkwind is still putting on shows for their die-hard faithful.

ALSO- Did you ever read Merry Clayton's account of getting pulled in for her role in Gimme Shelter?
