University of Ark. at Monticello gets $6 million gift [View all]

LITTLE ROCK—University of Arkansas at Monticello officials say the school has received a surprise $6 million donation—the largest private gift in its history.

The school's chancellor, Karla Hughes, said Friday that the donation was from the trust of the late Merle and Deloris Peterson, who lived in Dumas.

According to an online obituary, Deloris Peterson died in February at age 100. She and her husband ran a car dealership in Dumas, where they had lived since 1939.
