Last time I visited the East Valley Shelter (on Vanowen in Van Nuys) the majority of the dogs are large breeds. It's a damn shame that people let their pets breed then give them up. Or adopters aren't properly vetted to understand that these large dogs are energetic and it costs money to feed and keep them. They need to be trained properly too. People adopt them when they are cute puppies. Then they get too big to handle.

I was walking along the beach path at Santa Monica and there was a couple sitting along the edge selling puppies. They were cute as heck. They had the mama dog with them and she was large.... perhaps a doberman mix. This is probably against the law. Lots of people were stopping to look at the puppies.

The Shelter only had a handful of small dogs and they probably get adopted faster.
