And people need to travel further and further to find affordable homes.

It's not just here, mind you, but it's particularly painful for workers and those at the middle and top don't care to invest in public transit, regional rail transit, or truly affordable housing.

I'm a supporter of Transit Oriented Development and promote 50-100% affordable housing to the exclusion of new high end housing construction. There's no shortage of unaffordable housing so lets give that a rest.
