Golden Gate Bridge toll to hit $10 for most drivers [View all]

San Francisco Chronicle / 6-30-25

Starting Tuesday (July 1), crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and commuting by ferry or bus will cost Bay Area travelers more.

Bridge tolls will rise by 50 cents across all vehicle types, part of a multiyear increase schedule adopted by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District.

The standard FasTrak rate will climb from $9.25 to $9.75, while drivers paying via license plate or one-time payment will see a jump from $9.50 to $10.

The toll invoice rate, sent by mail, increases to $10.75. Carpoolers will pay $7.75, up from $7.25.

Why? According to the link, the District doesn't receive dedicated state or local tax revenue, and continues to recover from a steep decline in ridership following the COVID-19 pandemic. It says the fare and toll increases are necessary to maintain services and infrastructure, noting a “projected $220 million five-year shortfall.”

Gee, maybe it's time the state could help with funding.
