A fifth grade teacher at a Parker charter school and her family were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and transferred to a facility in Texas, the school said.
Global Village Academy - Douglas County said in an email to families Monday that the teacher and her family were detained at the ICE office in Centennial on Friday "while she was completing a routine appointment related to her immigration case." They were transferred to a family immigration detention facility in Texas, the school said.
The school said the teacher and her family are in the United States with permission. A Global Village Academy Collaborative spokesperson said the teacher "has a valid employment authorization document, authorizing her lawful employment in the United States, with any U.S. employer through the spring of 2029."
The school completed the I-9 verification process and conducted a Colorado Bureau of Investigation background check on the teacher, as they do for all school employees, the spokesperson said. (not much more at link)
