In January, the Georgia Ethics Commission levied a record $300,000 fine against the groups for violations of election law in 2018: allegedly illegal campaign activity, fundraising without registration as an independent committee, and failure to file reports on contributions and expenditures.

The fine was accompanied by personnel cuts, including those who said they were being laid off for attempts to organize a union.
