from Great Lakes Naval Station up in Waukegan doing training flights and O'Hare Airport is just east of Schaumburg a bit. They may have been doing training back and forth, practicing landings, in-flight training and maneuvers etc. The Illinois Civil Air Patrol also has facilities around the Chicago area and specifically one in Schaumburg and also one nearby in West Chicago and Wheeling. Training missions are my best bet.
