"Don't Tread on Me" flag from the Revolutionary War Days, or the "Join, or Die" flag. Both have been misused lately, and have morphed into a symbol of something different than their original intent.

See, that is NOT a flag of ISIS/ISIL--they stole it. It's an historical flag that they have misappropriated. It is crafted around an image purported to be the Seal of the Prophet. The message on the flag is basically the start of the common prayer 'There is no God but God, and Mohammed is the Messenger of God."

Of course, that probably doesn't matter much anymore--they've taken an historical image and wiped their asses on it. It's not quite the Nazi flag--yet...but in time it'll have the same flavor.
