The first debate between Michigan's major candidates for governor, Gretchen Whitmer and Tudor Dixon, will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday in Grand Rapids.

Whitmer, an incumbent Democrat, comes into the debate leading Dixon, a Republican, in a recent poll ahead of the Nov. 8 general election.

The debate will be hosted by WOOD-TV at the station's studios in Grand Rapids, an NBC affiliate, and is expected to be an hour long. Freep.com will host an embed of the debate live stream. WOOD-TV's coverage will also air on WLNS-TV in Lansing, WJMN-TV in Marquette, WJRT-TV in Flint and 9&10 News in Traverse City/Cadillac. The stream will also be available on woodtv.com.

Political reporter Rick Albin will moderate.

Meh, Rick Albin. I lived in Grand Rapids for years, and he's a bit of a yawner, but oh well, lol.
