I think (don't quote me on this) they base the tag cost on MSRP when the car was new. That would have been about $33,000 when I bought it.

They don't drop the cost of the tags as quickly as the car depreciates.

BTW, you can take that class any time & let your insurance company know. They prorate the savings out so you could get a refund on your current coverage. Then it just automatically gets applied going forward.
