T his proposal has the smell of another cliche being given a false sense of respectability. UPS and the USPS have been dropping off packages on porches for decades and still do. Amazon deliveries are also dropped off with great regularity.

If the city and county feel there is a great need for more police and fire fighters, then the issue should be presented as such to the voters for an up or down vote. Local retail outlets can always compete with online sources by being more convenient, greater variety of offerings, and superior customer service. That's what has helped local businesses survive through the arrival of Walmart and other national chains.
