Helmet bill is back again in Nebraska Legislature [View all]

During his eight years in the Nebraska Legislature, we agreed with many of the stances on issues taken by state Sen. Dave Bloomfield of Hoskins. That’s probably true of many of his constituents and Northeast Nebraskans in general.

But one notable issue in which we disagreed was his steadfast efforts to have the Nebraska legislature repeal state law that requires motorcyclists to wear a helmet while riding.

His failed legislative bills certainly had some supporters, but not nearly enough to convince state senators to repeal the law.

Sen. Bloomfield couldn’t run for re-election in 2016 because of term limits, and one wondered whether the issue might die with his leaving office.
