...and that gave it enormous influences. When William Loeb (the Rupert Murdoch of the mid-20th century) bought the paper and started printing his own editorials on the front page, people in the Granite State laughed at him. After years of a virutal newspaper monopoly, his word became "conventional wisdom" up there. It's not unlike the midwestern red states where you go into any restaurant or store, and Fox News is playing non-stop.
