Hassan among 8 Senate Dems to oppose COVID relief for undocumented immigrants [View all]

A prime example of the two splitting on a key policy issue came up last week when Republicans forced a non-binding vote on an amendment by Republican Sens. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Todd Young of Indiana to continue to deny COVID-19 relief (stimulus) checks for undocumented immigrants.
It was among scores of amendments dealt with by the Senate on Feb. 5 during the budget reconciliation process that will ultimately lead to Senate passage of President Joe Bidens $1.9 trillion package. Republicans presented this and other non-binding measures to put vulnerable, purple state Democratic senators on record.
Shaheen is secure in her Senate seat until 2026. Hassan is up for reelection next year.
