every day -- many, many millions of them, nationally; billions of them, globally.

My grandmother used to refuse to watch Diane Sawyer when she began as the news anchor on ABC. Because presenting the news was, in her words, "a man's job." Even when directly confronted with the question of whether she or her daughters or granddaughters would be less capable of presenting the news than her husband or sons or grandsons, she just insisted that it was "a man's job" -- though she did not ever explicitly admit to her nor her female progeny's inability.

It is just acculturated self-imprisonment -- a disappointingly well-established behavior. These people seem to think women being subjected to sexual assault is *merely* the natural order of things and thereby not worth thinking too much about nor acting upon.
