The poll of 703 registered likely voters found DeWine "well positioned for a possible run for governor, with a strong awareness and image among Republican primary voters."
Importantly from DeWine's point of view, he was well ahead in a matchup with potential GOP competitors in 2018, including Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, Secretary of State Jon Husted, and U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci of Wadsworth. The poll had DeWine at 45 percent, Taylor and Husted at 13 percent, and Renacci at 4 percent. In a face-off with Husted, DeWine was favored better than 2-to-1.
DeWine's name identification and favorable/unfavorable ratings were significantly higher than his potential competitors.

But it is strong evidence DeWine is serious about running for governor, as is Taylor who announced this week she set up a group called Onward Ohio to promote her potential candidacy and pay for travel.
