Students at Central York High School this week have been protesting over a list of Black- and Latinx-focused books the school board banned in August.

According to Delma Rivera, the diversity education specialist at Central York Middle School, the diversity committee put together the list to help educate students and parents who had questions about the racial unrest in the country

“Many of those books and articles and TED talks are even ones that I in my position at Central have recommended,” Rivera said. “Not as part of the curriculum, but as part of only a resource list for people to have available to them.”

The list was available to students and staff until Caufman sent an email on Aug. 11 announcing the materials were not to be used at all.
