That's why I'm looking for a room, which is typically cheaper (but even in the Pittsburgh area, more than $400). Subsidized housing is the way to go, but that involves waiting lists of a year and a half at least. I registered with every subsidized place in Allegheny County, but there turns out to be a catch: certain paperwork has to be submitted in person (mail is a no), and I am currently living in Florida. Let's say it's a bit far to commute to submit paperwork.
