In a letter to the Texas Supreme Court Tuesday night responding to Abbott's lawsuit, the attorney general's office argued that Paxton and local county and district attorneys were the only officials who could file to remove lawmakers from office. Paxton said in a statement that he planned to file his own legal action against the Democrats if they don't return to the Capitol by Friday, the deadline that House Speaker Dustin Burrows has given them.
