Theyll do that as soon as this springs primary Election, and will count the ballots by hand. I understand results will have to be reported within 24 hours if they do that. Hand counts, take a lot of time so very likely at the 24 hour time point all those that are uncounted will stay uncounted.
Democrats contract with the county election officials to run their primary election. Republicans are still trying to figure out where they will vote and have been open to piggyback on the Democrats locations, which Democrats are not likely to go for.
By state law, polling locations have to be accessible to all voters. That plus availability or issues that are hard to resolve in our county. this November required a last-minute changes of location because of lack of accessibility in a few places.
Theres an obscure provision in state law that voters will have to go back to voting in their individual precincts rather than being able to vote in vote centers if either party withdraws from using the voting machines the county has available. The confusion that will result will be significant. Its a mess.
Republican paranoia about Election machines is high statewide and I am not sure if Republican parties in other purple counties are heading the same direction.
