Resident hangs explicit political sign across street from elementary school playground [View all]

NICKELSVILLE, Va. (WCYB) — School officials roped off half of the playground at a Virginia elementary school in an effort to keep students from seeing an explicit political sign that a resident hung right across the street.

Nickelsville Elementary School officials reached out to the sheriff's department and town officials to see if they have any power to have the sign disparaging President Joe Biden taken down, but they have no legal recourse. So the school reached out to the property owner to see if they can force the tenant to remove the sign.

The school will put up a privacy screen around the playground fence that's going to cost $200. It was expected to be installed by Friday.

"My message to him would be to please open your Bible," said Linda Cantrell, a neighbor. "Take care of your children and grandchildren and our future to come because that's what we depend on and Nickelsville is our future. And please protect our children. And right now he's not protecting our children. He's allowing this to escalate."
