Meet IKE, the digital kiosks that may soon populate parts of Seattle [View all]

Seattle on Thursday got its first look at IKE, the Interactive Kiosk Experience, which could be coming to the city.

Part of Mayor Bruce Harrell's Downtown Activation Plan, the 8-foot-tall advertising screens offer multilingual wayfinding and other information about businesses, transit schedules and city services.

The City Council is weighing whether to allow phased installation of up to 80 screens in most of the Downtown Seattle Association's coverage area as well as in the Sodo, Ballard, U District and West Seattle Junction business improvement areas.

"We see this as a great new tool for downtown, and we look forward to getting these in the ground — 30 of them within the core of downtown, prior to the FIFA World Cup in June 2026," DSA President and CEO Jon Scholes said at a press briefing.

Perhaps not a bad idea. Just hope they're not easily vandalized.
