about setting up what I call "intentional communities," drawing on our proud history of people getting together to experiment on their ideal society.

I'm a back-to-the-lander whose curiosity led me to similar experiences. It's a useful practice and learning assignment.

A distinct difference between these tech bros' "technoutopian cities" and back-to-the-landers or historic communities like the Shakers is their lack of humility and genuine intellectual curiosity, their ego-centric the-world-owes-me mentality. With their ill-gotten wealth and disdain for democracy, many dream of buying large tracts of pristine land and shutting everyone else out of their fiefdoms.

Is there a connection between this Ugly budget's weird idea of selling off public lands and these tech bros' dreams?
