Teachers union leaders are suggesting that prep sports continue through the statewide two-day walkout for school teachers and employees scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
Yet, as of Saturday evening, no concrete decision had been made as to whether contests would go on as planned.
Postponement could leave prep sports across West Virginia in a major scheduling crunch. Sectional girls basketball finals are booked for Friday, and the state wrestling tournament is set to run in Huntington on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Thats why union leaders said Saturday that sports should go on as planned.
We want to keep things as normal as possible for the kids, said Dale Lee, president of the West Virginia Education Association. Theyve worked very hard to get where they are, and we want to insure this doesnt affect them in any way. So were recommending that coaches be allowed to practice with their teams and the games be able to go on as scheduled.
