The East Block at Parliament Hill has been evacuated after a man barricaded himself in the federal building, according to Ottawa police.

The Parliamentary Protective Services issued a lockdown at 111 Wellington Ave. at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, according to an alert shared by Sen. Patrick Brazeau.

The alert urged everyone in the building to “seek shelter in the nearest room” and “close and lock all doors and hide” while waiting for instructions from first responders.

It also asked people to stay out of the immediate area and to avoid places that were placed under lockdown.
