Ironic political history:
---Hoping to make sure that the US never had a centralized supreme authority like the King, they gave most power to the states and severely limited the power of the central government. We have now evolved into a system where the national government can override most state power at will.
---Having seen the horror of the Civil War, Canada adopted a state with strong central government authority, yet has evolved into a system where the Provinces have much more real authority and independence than US States.


Relevant statement from Robin Williams: Canada must feel like the people living in a really nice apartment which happens to located above a meth lab.
