Tories losing Red Wall as older voters are turned off by sleaze and lockdown parties [View all]

Boris Johnson would lose both his majority and his parliamentary seat if an election was held tomorrow as older voters desert the Conservatives over sleaze and lockdown party allegations, a new poll suggests.

The new detailed research suggests Labour would be the largest party with 309 seats on a 41 per cent vote share, with the Tories losing 111 constituencies to end on 255 seats with 35 per cent of the vote in a hung parliament.

This is at least partly being driven by the fact that older voters and rural constituencies are the most likely to be concerned by recent scandals over lobbying, second jobs and Government parties that allegedly broke lockdown rules.

The large-scale sample research and MRP analysis was conducted by 38 Degrees and Survation alongside polling expert Christopher Hanretty of Royal Hollway University.
