Ask for their customer retention representative - sometimes it has to get escalated up the chain to get a counter offer.

If you can reel off other deals available to you, they will worry that you might actually leave. Keep pushing, keep threatening to cancel (even if that is not really an option).

Some companies have learned since the old days. Decades ago I was an early adopter for DirecTV back before they gave you the equipment. I had to pay major bucks for the equipment and the installation. After being a customer for over a decade, I needed to relocate the dish and wanted to upgrade my old receiver. DirecTV wouldn't give me any deal at all. I called them several times and nothing.

Finally I found an ad for DISH that offered a DVR, a receiver for every TV (we'd only had one receiver and split the signal), and free installation. I called DirecTV back and told them unless they gave me a matching deal, I was changing. Still no offer from DirecTV so I signed the contract with DISH. When I called back to cancel my DirecTV account, they suddenly were all over me with offers - when it was too late. DirecTV called back so many times I threatened to charge them with harassment.

Now I know I should have told DirecTV that I was shutting off their service before I signed another contract - their final offer was actually pretty good. But I learned and have played off companies against each other ever since.
