Any ideas on printing a schematic in pdf to an old pen plotter? [View all]

I have a few pdf files that have schematics that are too large to print on 8 1/2 x 11 and actually read. I have a really old pen plotter and AutoCad that's not much newer and could get a hard copy that way except for a few problems. Capturing an image file from the pdf to paste it into a drawing file gives me with an image resolution that is pretty much illegible.
WInLine is a software interpreter for printing to an HPGL device from a Windows environment but it is cost prohibitive for a person trying to get by on a very modest SS payout. I got a response from the WinLine people stating that I should be able to print something from the trial version with a watermark on the print. All I could do is print a test page. This is a commercial outfit so I don't expect any help there.
I have in the past done a print and stitch where I printed small sections of the schematic and taped them together to form a complete view.
My old plotter didn't cost me much but I'd like to be able to do something more than giving me more than hardcopy on plans and designs.
All Ideas and suggestions are welcome.
