there is likely a online video on how to take apart your laptop so I would do that and make sure all of the cables for the video are seated properly.

The danger is putting it all back together. The videos always make it look easy... but looks are deceiving.

And, if it is the graphics chip... this won't help at all. Pretty much you are looking for a new one at that point although you can always check and see if a repair shop will do it for peanuts ( unlikely ).

My laptop starting experiencing issues... I took it to Best Buy Geek squad and they gave me a repair bill (including replacing the failing disk drive and the battery) of close to $350... for $500 I could get a new computer... so that's what I did. I gave the old laptop to my niece who had a friend repair for like $150 so now she has a decent laptop.
