3. Hawaii isn't very progressive

Aloha,

The state legislature is real conservative. Republican brand is dead but the smart republicans just run as Democrats. The Democrats actually have a culture of welcoming the republicans into their tent so they can caucus with them. But the problem is it produces a bunch of Democrats who could care less about the party platform.

We have had a teacher shortage since 1911. Zero property taxes pay for public education thanks to the authors of our state constitution. So our schools have always been vastly underfunded, teachers get the lowest pay when factored in the cost of living. The legislature has never addressed it.

But this move by Ed was something none of the other congressional dems would have even dreamed of doing. He has a history of conservative acts. He voted for the bankruptcy bill which created the student loan crisis, he voted for the Iraq war and he argued that the Citizens United Supreme Court Decision was a good one.
