As a much younger woman years ago, I was half of a bi-racial couple and although I thought I knew a lot about what black men go through, I saw more than I'd ever dreamed. It went all the way from one museum official breaking out in a huge smile when she saw us enter hand in hand, to a woman who fell down and hurt herself slightly on the sidewalk, then started screaming in terror when my beloved approached to help her. The latter was far more typical. Far more.
