China introducing national standard for English translations! [View all]

Soon there will be no more big fuck halls in China

Chinese is known as one of the most difficult languages to understand and interpret and the struggle can clearly be seen from the hilarious misinterpreted pictures that read everything from “Big fuck Hall” for a hall to “explosive dog” for a police dog. However, China has finally unrolled a plan to end the spread of Chinglish and is working on improving the quality of English in 13 public arenas like transportation, entertainment and medicine. The government will also be providing a list of standardised translations for some 3,500 commonly used phrases and terms.

This decision was taken jointly by the Standardization Administration and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine as they are trying to eradicate the poor translations that have made the country into a joke in front of a majority of people all over the world. While those living in China have been happily entertained by the mistranslations the image of the country has had to suffer due to the hilarious and highly inappropriate translations. According to reports, Chinglish which is the funny Chinese to English mistranslations is holding back the country form developing a multi-lingual society.

The program aims at promoting proper grammar and vocabulary in various places where English translations are present and any content that is damaging the image of China or any other country will be baned along with hurtful and discriminatory words. This step will be helpful since a Chinese part was actually translated to “Racist Park” and the vegetable aisle in a supermarket read “fuck vegetables”. Here are a few pictures of Chinglish errors in China.

Here's the exercise room in Shanghai that became a big fuck hall after someone didn't put enough effort into the translations.

And the perfect place for someone who doesn't like vegetables.
