My grandfather wrote in his autobiography that my grandmothers family had Jewish blood that made her family angry. My sample showed he was right, he picked the wrong country - he said Germany - the test said Netherlands, and my father brought me Jewish genes from Belgium. And from someone somewhere 1% Middle-Eastern/Jewish blood.

I think these tests are a good way to help some of us come to terms with identity and race.

My father's family had detailed stories of our native American ancestors, that we were Cherokee. I remember telling a Navajo man I worked with in Phoenix that I was part Cherokee and he started laughing, "All you white people are part Cherokee!"

The test said: Not a drop of any native/American blood..
