If the past is anything to go by, we can expect a repeat performance with the electronic media. No doubt there will be a shift away from the elite use of computer networks, and in the not so distant future, everyone will be required to be "plugged in" – to be computer literate.

Access to networks will be seen as a human right. There will be parliamentary acts which make it mandatory for everyone to be wired up, for so many hours a week, so that they too can become informed. The authorities will be able to reach – and program – the entire global village. In such circumstances, thought management will be far from science fiction.
