1. No doubt about it. Without women's contributions, any society would quickly collapse.

I'd dare Republicans to ask the good people of Afghanistan (not that they would).

But the inverse isn't nearly as true. I suspect that a society where only women were allowed to contribute, could actually sustain itself - and probably just fine.

In other democracies, women are automatically entitled to social security - even without having paid into it - in recognition for their role as homemakers, caregivers, and just, well, being old.

And not just rich countries. Argentina - with all its economic problems - has this benefit.

The right-wingers down there scoffed and pledged to rescind it when former President Cristina Kirchner introduced it around 2011.

But now, no one dares propose such a thing - although far-right candidate (and inveterate misogynist) Javier Milei is said to be planning the very thing if he wins this November.
