... our only source of income* was being taxed. These fellowships are funded partly by the Federal gov't, partly by college endowments, partly by the state. The net effect was to divert funds from private donors and states into Federal coffers. So much for the GOP being the party of lower taxation !


*Outside jobs for graduate students are strongly discouraged, and few could spare the time and energy in any case. An outside job can be cause for dismissal from the program at most schools.
