Growing cotton, for example, is not an environmentally benign process.

The same is true of wool, hemp, or any other "natural" fiber.

Every square millimeter of land humans have converted into farms was once wilderness.

It seems to me the best way of reducing the environmental footprint of the clothing is to buy clothes that last.
