Amtrak had begun to make a profit before the pandemic hit

He obviously doesn’t ride the train. Again before the pandemic reservations were a must. You can’t just walk into a train station and buy a ticket for a train 20 minutes before departure. Yes, used to be that way, not anymore. I would sometimes have to get a ticket 2 weeks ahead. For longer trips in roomettes sometimes 2 months
