2. There are quite a few ethnic Ukrainians or people with Ukrainian

family and friends living in the border regions of the Russian Federation. There are also mixed marriages, blended families that might not all break for loyalty to Russia. I thought immediately after the invasion that this might be fertile ground for operations inside Russia, and was wondering when we'd see some indication this might have happened. I suspect this might be it.

Ukrainians have a long history of disproportionate warfare against occupiers. Ukrainian nationalist guerrillas fought the Soviets well into the 1950s, switching enemies almost as soon as the Germans were driven out.

It's sad that they're once again in a position of having to fight for their existence as a nation and a culture.
