2. WWll is as far in the past now as the Civil War was in my childhood.

There were still Civil Was veterans, in long white beards, appearing in Memorial Day parades, but the war itself felt very much in the distant, historical past to me. Now WWll seems not that very long ago to me, but to young people it probably seems to have happened in another era entirely, and is hard to relate to or draw lessons from.
